From Bukavu, Eastern DRC
My name is Dorcas Buzigire George and my inspiration for founding BeneFutura International (BFI) is deeply personal.
I grew up in Bukavu, in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, amid recurrent wars and insecurity. On multiple occasions, I was forced to flee my home and live in camps for internally displaced persons. I know what it feels like to lose everything, arrive in an unfamiliar place with almost nothing, and face the uncertainty, vulnerability, and daily challenges that displacement creates.
During those difficult periods, my family and I received humanitarian assistance. That support helped us meet immediate needs, but the experience also taught me that displaced people need more than temporary relief. They need safety, dignity, education, healing, economic opportunity, and a genuine pathway toward rebuilding their lives.
Displacement became part of my story, but it did not define my future. I was able to rebuild my life, pursue an education, and develop a career in law, investigations, governance, policy, and international business and affairs. My journey taught me that people affected by conflict are not simply victims or recipients of assistance. They are resilient individuals with talent, aspirations, and the capacity to become leaders and agents of change when given the right support and opportunities.
I founded BeneFutura International to change the world by transforming my lived experience into purposeful action. BFI exists to support women, children, survivors of violence and persecution, displaced persons, refugees, and other underserved and vulnerable communities—not only in surviving crises, but in recovering, rebuilding, and moving toward lasting self-reliance.
BeneFutura represents a commitment to give others the same chance that I was given: the opportunity to break the cycle of crisis and poverty, move beyond displacement and hardship, and transition to a future defined by dignity, stability, and hope.
BeneFuture today is making a difference in the lives of vulnerable people who have faced unspeakable suffering. With your help, we can continues this vital work and together we will create A Better Future for All.
